Thank you very much students and staff!!!!!!! During the 1st period challenge we
raised over $1600 dollars for the Special Olympics Polar Plunge that is
awesome!!!!!!!!! Thank you for giving with your hearts!!!! Come watch us jump
into a large dumpster filled with icy cold water from a fire hydrant on Saturday
at 2:00 at the Middle School. I would like to give a special thanks to Ms.
Swanson and Mrs. Neiles for assisting with this fundraiser. Thanks again, SRO

Attention Juniors and Seniors- PROM is right around the corner-- The new policy
requires juniors and senior to have at least 12.5 credits and be in good
standing academically in order to attend prom. IF you have FEWER than 12.5
credits OR are not in good standing and would like to discuss your
non-eligibility to attend prom, please see an administrator. Thanks.
Attention all athletes interested in participating in track and field this
spring: There will be an informational meeting on Tuesday, February 21st at 3:10
in the library. If you are currently in a winter sport, you do not need to
attend this meeting. You do, however, need to stop in Coach Larson's room and
talk to her. Track and field practice begins on Monday, February 27th.
You may have noticed the Driving Simulator in the 2nd floor computer commons. DO
NOT TOUCH!!! This simulator will be here for 3 weeks!!!!!! Officer Boutchee or a
Highway Patrolman will be contacting random study halls for students to
participate during this time period. Our goal is to get as many students on this
machine as possible. You will need your driver’s license to use the machine.
Students will learn about the effects of distracted driving and driving under

Each spring a mock legislative session & weekend retreat is held at the State
Capital in Pierre. Hosted by the S. D. Teen Age Republican’s (TAR’s), this event
is designed to be educational, rather than partisan, in nature/ Participants
will have fun, meet teens from across the start, and draft and debate
legislation on the floor of the state House of Representatives and Senate. If
you are interested in politics, government, or making a difference, The Mock
Legislative Session is for you! This event on March 23-24, 2012 is open to all
students in middle or high school regardless of political affiliation. Stop in
the office for an application, some scholarships available.
Students & Staff: The 2012 Gumbo “Going with the Flow “ will go on sale starting
Tuesday, February 7 through Thursday, February 9 during lunch. We are also
excited to let you know that the yearbook will be in ALL COLOR. The cost is just
$35. A VERY LIMITED number of extras will be ordered, so it is extremely
important that you preorder to ensure you receive a copy.
The talent show results are posted outside the choir room double doors. The
dress rehearsal will be Monday the 13th beginning at 3:30 in the theater. All
acts must attend. The talent show is Tuesday night the 14th at 7:30 PM
Oahe Electric is sponsoring a Youth Excursion to North Dakota and a Youth Tour
to Washington DC. Essays will be accepted until Feb. 17th. Stop in the Guidance
Office or see the brochures with the dates and such in the rack outside of the
Guidance Office.
TGIC's Characters of the Month for February is respectful. If you know someone
who is always obedient toward authority, polite and well-mannered stop in the
office to nominate them today. Please have nominations to the office by February
29th.
High School Juniors interested in attending the 33rd Annual Youth Business
Adventure (YBA) program in June should contact Mr. Bumann in Room 108 or stop by
the guidance office to pick up an application form. The deadline for
applications is February 10, 2012. During YBA, you may obtain 2 college credits
for under $100 for participation in the program. There is also an opportunity to
win a matched $500 college or technical institute scholarship
The Riggs High School organization Teens Getting Involved in the Community (T.G.I.C)
each year make decisions on the allocation of grant funds from the Endowment
Fund for youth through the South Dakota Community Foundation. Initial funding
was provided by the Turner Foundation. The group is looking for individuals or
organizations who will use this money wisely and effectively for projects of
value to community youth. Individuals or organizations seeking funding should
follow the Healthy Community/Healthy Youth Initiative goals, such as building
youth volunteerism, improving educational opportunities, and providing a healthy
start for a healthy future. Applications can be picked up at T.F. Riggs High
School, Georgia Morse Middle School, or the Chamber of Commerce, or to get an
online copy, email the TGIC leader Jasmin Fosheim at jf3190@k12.sd.us. Deadline
is March 1st.
