Students, just a reminder that you are not to be in the hallways during lunch
hour—please remain in the cafeteria until the bell rings.
Seniors: Requests and information for Senior Salutations in the yearbook are due
TODAY February 1st. Please your remind your parents to get this taken care of if
they are interested in purchasing a salutation.
All girls interested in golf this spring please meet in Mr. Palmer's room
Wednesday February 1 at 3:10 for a quick informational meeting pertaining to the
upcoming season. If you are in a winter activity and can not make the meeting,
please stop in and see Coach Palmer
FINANCIAL AID NIGHT will be held at T.F. Riggs High School on Tuesday, February
7, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. in the Theatre at Riggs. The program will feature the Free
Application for Federal Student Aid and provide an overview of various
assistance programs. The necessary forms for financial aid will be distributed
and discussed. Senior students and their parents are encouraged to attend. After
the presentation there will be staff available to assist students and parents
with obtaining a FAFSA pin number. To do this both the student’s and parent’s
social security numbers will be needed.
Auditions for the talent show will take place on Thursday February 2nd and
Friday February 3rd in the choir room. Audition times will be from 3:30-6:30.
The audition sign-up sheet for the talent show is up on the choir room double
doors. The dress rehearsal for the show will be on Monday February 13th, and the
show itself will be on Tuesday February 14th. If chosen for the show, you MUST
attend the dress rehearsal. If you are involved in the travelling one-act play
Thursday and Friday and you wish to try out for the show, you must arrange a
time with Mr. Bauck and Ms. Amundson ahead of time. If you have any questions,
see Mr. Bauck or Ms. Amundson.
Each spring a mock legislative session & weekend retreat is held at the State
Capital in Pierre. Hosted by the S. D. Teen Age Republican’s (TAR’s), this event
is designed to be educational, rather than partisan, in nature/ Participants
will have fun, meet teens from across the start, and draft and debate
legislation on the floor of the state House of Representatives and Senate. If
you are interested in politics, government, or making a difference, The Mock
Legislative Session is for you! This event on March 23-24, 2012 is open to all
students in middle or high school regardless of political affiliation. Stop in
the office for an application, some scholarships available.
High School Juniors interested in attending the 33rd Annual Youth Business
Adventure (YBA) program in June should contact Mr. Bumann in Room 108 or stop by
the guidance office to pick up an application form. The deadline for
applications is February 10, 2012. During YBA, you may obtain 2 college credits
for under $100 for participation in the program. There is also an opportunity to
win a matched $500 college or technical institute scholarship.
Students & Staff: The 2012 Gumbo “Going with the Flow “ will go on sale starting
Tuesday, February 7 through Thursday, February 9 during lunch. We are also
excited to let you know that the yearbook will be in ALL COLOR. The cost is just
$35. A VERY LIMITED number of extras will be ordered, so it is extremely
important that you preorder to ensure you receive a copy.
Student senate is hosting free dance lessons on Monday, Feb. 6th and Thursday,
Feb. 16th at the school. Dancers from around the community will be volunteering
their time in order to help us tweak our dancing skills here at Riggs before the
King of Hearts. We hope to see you all there!
Oahe Electric is sponsoring a Youth Excursion to North Dakota and a Youth Tour
to Washington DC. Essays will be accepted until Feb. 17th. Stop in the Guidance
Office or see the brochures with the dates and such in the rack outside of the
Guidance Office.
